The Salar Jung Museum is a magnificent art museum which is located at Dar-ul-Shifa in the city of Hyderabad. It is one of the three National Museums which are present in India. It has an enormous and beautiful collection of sculptures, carvings, clocks, manuscripts, paintings ceramics, textiles, and furniture. These beautiful collections came from around the world. The property of the Salar Jung family has been sourced to for the museum’s collection. This is the same family after whom the museum is named. It is considered one of the largest museums in the world.

History

The Museum has been declared an institution of national importance by the Parliament of India. Apart from being one of the largest museums in the world, it houses too many things which give a glimpse of India and the precious things that India had in the past.

  • The museum houses 38 galleries which are spread over two floors. These 38 galleries only display a part of the original collection housed by Salar Jung III. The galleries are, and the selection is insane. Artifacts date back to 4th century. Apart from the gallery, you can roam around the library and reading rooms where you will get to know different knowledgeful things from a good number of publishers. The museum also houses a collection of Quran from around the world in different fonts and designs. Some Qurans are also written with Gold and silver. Apart from the Quran different groups of religious books are also present.

Apart from this, the museum houses a furniture collection which includes pieces from the time of Napoleon and King Louis XIV. From the collection of 43000 artifacts and 50000 books, only a small portion is shown today.
